Weekend P&L

Well it was break even last weekend. Just the two bets, one loser and one winner.

I got a fair price on Notre Pere at 2.32, as he was sent off as evens favourite. Unfortunately, he failed to finish, falling for the first time in his career when going ok 5 fences from home. Jumping is the name of the game, as they say. Annoyingly they always say it when the horse you backed has just fallen.

Thankfully Chelsea made up for it by winning 1-0 against Man Utd. I was glad of that because of my bet and because I am a confirmed ABU. With Liverpool’s championship hopes all but gone, I shall have to hope either Chelsea or Arsenal will win it. Unless, there is a huge surprise and Man City or … No, I’ll stop there. There are only 4 (or is it just 3?) that can win the Premier League.

Anyway, Chelsea’s win, after Betfair commission, put me up 0.05 on the two bets. Just as well, I didn’t do any of the other bets I looked at, as Man City, Portsmouth, Forpadydeplasterer and a couple of other horses would all have left me down.

At the moment it is slow and steady. Not a lot of bets and just about holding my own, which is the ultimate aim of gamblers according to Declan Lynch in his book ‘Free Money’. I can readily agree with him on that. I have just finished reading the and will a post on it soon.

Weekend reckoning : Up 0.05. Overall Down 4.45.

The “fair price” you got on Notre Pere could have been better if the EU put an end to its opposition to an open gambling market. At the moment, restricted competition between bookmakers and betting exchanges means that 2.32 is artificially shortened.
